The History of Ceramic Window Tint

Today, the best quality material you can use for your windows tints is ceramic.
However, in the past, ceramic window tinting wasn’t always an option.

Here’s a brief history on how ceramic window tinting came to be, and why it’s actually the best option for your window tint.

Before there was ceramic tint…
First, there was dye window tinting. This is basically just like putting a giant sticker on your window that shades you from the sun. It’s cheap and easy, but the dye eventually fades turning purple. It also doesn’t block heat quite as well from entering the car.

Next, came metallic window tinting. This type of window tint actually contains metal particles in its film. This is a step up from dye window tint because it’s thicker and more durable. The problem, however, is that the metallic properties in the film often mess with radio systems, GPS, and other electronic devices.

Enter: Ceramic
At this point, aerospace engineers had already been using ceramic tiles to securely insulate spacecrafts. The reason for this was twofold. One, ceramic particles are perfect for keeping out intense heat, like the heat spacecrafts experience when breaking into the atmosphere. Two, ceramic blocks infrared radiation and up to 99% of the sun’s dangerous UV rays. With these two important benefits, ceramic tiles kept astronauts safe and protected.

A New Use
Knowing the awesome protective powers of ceramic tiles, car manufacturing and product companies put them to a new use: car window tinting. After all, if ceramic is good enough for spacecraft, it should be good enough for cars on Earth. In fact, ceramic film is the best material for car window tinting that you can get on the market now.

Ceramic Film is Great
Although it is more expensive than the other two window film options, ceramic film is worth the money. Ceramic film lasts the longest and protects the best.

Its transparency gives the perfect amount of privacy and shade, while still allowing you to drive safely on the road. Ceramic film blocks sun glares and ultra violet light without interfering with other electronic devices. AND, it makes your windows accident safe by essentially shatter-proofing them. One of the most dangerous things about getting in a car accident is the chance of broken glass shards flying into you. But with ceramic film, your glass windows are tempered and therefore extra resistant to breakage.

Getting Ceramic Film Installed
It’s easy! Simply call your local window tinting car company and ask about their ceramic window tints. While you may be able to do your own installation, it’s better to have a professional take care of it for you. This way you’re sure to have the films cut and installed correctly.

Once your new ceramic window tints are installed, keep your windows rolled up for at least 24 hours. This is to ensure that the tints are 100% dry before they rub against anything.

And after that, you’re good to go!

7 Facts You Should Know About Window Tinting

Thinking to invest in some awesome new window tints

Here are 7 facts you’ll want to know about window tinting before making your decision:

  • Tinting saves lives.

It’s true! A good window tint can protect you from up to 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. It’s known that long term exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause rapid skin aging and even skin cancer. But with tinted car windows, you can rest assured that your skin and health are being protected while you drive.

  • Tinting can make you a better driver.

How many times have you been driving and suddenly the sun shines right into your eyes? Blinding you to what’s on the road? It’s the scariest experience and one that can result in crashes and accidents. Because, if you can’t see, then you can’t drive safely. Luckily, tinted windows take the danger out of such scenarios by providing you with enough shade to shield your eyes. So, even when the sun is directly in front of your car, you can still drive well.

  • Placement matters.

Different windows deserve different tints. You may want to go with a slightly lighter tint percentage for the front side windows and the rear window- this way it’s easier to see out of them for driving. But, the back-side windows are great for darker tints, because you don’t really need to see out of those when driving. Plus, darker back-side windows can give your back-seat passengers a little more privacy.
Pro Tip: Never tint your mirrors. Only tint your windows.

  • Quality is key.

When it comes to your health and safety, getting the best to protect is the smartest move. That’s why it’s important to do your research in advance and choose top quality window films from top quality manufacturers (like SunTek). You deserve to get top quality protection!

  • There are tint laws.

Rest assured, window tinting IS legal in all fifty states. However, each state has its own window tinting rules and regulations. This just means, that how light or dark your windows are allowed to be might vary depending on which state you live in. If you’re getting your windows tinted with a professional car window tinting company- they should know the rules and be able to easily advise you. But just to be safe, it’s always a good idea to look it up for yourself in advance.

  • Window tinting can help your wallet.

First off, window tinting is not as expensive as many think it to be. Second, it’s actually cost efficient. Because, window tinting acts as an insulator, which means you can save money on air conditioning and heating. It’s the perfect win-win solution.

  • Tints are easy to maintain.

All you need to keep those window tints spotless is a soft cloth and some glass cleaning solution. It’s as simple as that. Plus, if any cracks or scrapes happen, you can always take your car into a professional and they’ll help you replace it right away!
